Automatic Loveletter - Truth or Dare

Imagine rock + acoustic + emo. That's what you get with Automatic Loveletter. This American band is one of the female lead vocals that I listen to. Do you know the feeling when you find out the band that you know of releases a new album? It felt like I was on the journey together with them.

Whenever I listen to their songs, I get pumped up. I remember sitting in my bus ride all the way to my destination with just their songs in my playlist. Good times.

Sounds like: VersaEmerge / New Years Day
Genre: Pop Punk / Rock / Female Vocals

sj's picks of the week.

The Script has a new record out called Science & Faith. Indeed this is quite a genius of a record. Even though they hail from Ireland and are currently based in London, I've never been able to disconnect the image of them sounding like a bunch of New Yorkers. (don't ask me why or how) Regardless. you can easily distinguish that this is a Script record from Danny O'Donoghue's unmistakable voice and their distinct sound.

My favourite tracks: You Won't Feel A Thing, Science & Faith, This=Love

Science & Faith
Genre: Indie / Alternative / Rock

Kyte. Another band from the UK. With a more electro and ambient sound, and a lead vocalist with a really unique voice; this band really is a very easy listen. If nothing else tickles your fancy, the cute album cover should be enough to draw you in! Definitely something you'd play on a road trip, or when reading your favourite book armed with a cup of tea while the rain beats on your windows, and perhaps the best use of Kyte music (in my humble opinion) is as a soundtrack of life! Plug in your earphones while you ride on the bus/train or while you walk around or just sit and watch people. Try it sometime, you'll be amazed! Go listen to Kyte now.

My favourite tracks: Boundaries (Kyte), The Smoke Saves Lives (Science for the Living), Dead Waves (Dead Waves)

Albums: Kyte, Science For The Living, Dead Waves
Genre: Ambient / Pop / Electro / Indie

Bradley Hathaway

This may not really come under the category of music. But it's amazing nonetheless. I've recently be re-aquainted with this genius of a man. Yup, manly man he is! Enjoy!! xx

Elizabethtown Soundtrack

Wow. it's been 5 years since Elizabethtown came out and i'm still listening to the soundtrack and watching it.

It's one of the most played movies apart from Pride and Prejudice in my movie list.

If I feel like listening to good music, i'll just turn the movie on and let it run all-day-long, just listening to the conversations and music over and over again.

If you haven't seen Elizabethtown, you have got to see it.

Music for Sundown

It's always good to have some good old southern rock 'n roll y'all! Mmmhmmmm!!!
Okay, bottomline is, Kings of Leon provides pleasure to the ears and heart.

Genre: Rock / Alternative / Garage / Southern Rock

Favourites.

Ah, you know it's a going to be a great week when two of your favourite bands release new albums and they sound goooooood!

I don't have to say much, if you're a fan - celebrate along with me! If you're not yet a fan or have never heard these people, shame on you! Okay joking. No but seriously, please go have a listen to these two bands. There's a reason I've loved them from long before and there's a reason their music still sends thrills, shrills and happy feelings up my spine!

I love how they've managed to evolve musically over the years and yet still maintain the sound that so distinctly separates them from every other band. Maybe it's just because the lead singer is still the lead singer. Mmhhmm.. yeah, maybe that.

That aside, today's musical extravaganza is brought to you by the letter......... J!

For a limited time: check out The Drop to stream full album

Until June

i was going through my playlist and i really like listening to until june.
i haven't checked out their latest album, but here's what i have.
it feels like you should listen to these songs when you're all alone, on a chilly night. haha.
it keeps you warmth.

{happy ears day}

Today is a big day for me. I'm going to be cleaning my house, cooking dinner, possibly writing 100s of random messages to be stuck all over my siblings beds, design a greeting card, make a day-planner, journal, among other things... I'll need good inspirational music to go along with all the activities of the day sooooooooooo::: I've picked my choice of music for today and it gives me {very happy ears} to announce
***unfortunately this new ep is not up on myspace. perhaps youtube may be of some assistance***
Happy Happy Ears Day!!! Loves xx

Aussie Awareness Day, Part 2.

Welcome to the next installment of Aussie-music Awareness Day. These bands have sentimental value to me and all hold a special place in my heart. I was introduced to them by my amazing friends in Newcastle while staying there for a couple months. Much love to all the Novocastrians!!

So anyhoo, fasten your seatbelts. Ready, set, GO!

I'd heard so much about these guys from their fellow proud Novocastrians who hail from the (very amazing, beautiful and laidback) Newcastle and upon listening to them, got hooked. The guys moved London and since have laid Paperadio to rest. Drummer Joel currently plays for Hillsong London and Badkatt and the Wolf.

These indie rockers from Perth make some good music. Loved their older material, but their new stuff is good too. I really like their vocals.

I loooooooooove these guys, not just because they're from Sydney but because their band members are really amazing guys and they sound goooood! Formerly known as The View although when I first met them at Blackstump, they were still known as Anonymous Gift. In all honesty, I went to check out their band solely because of their name. Had the chance to hang out with them a few times and they're really fun guys. They have since changed their name a couple of times and added an additional guitarist (Marcus Beaumont) and developed into an even more amazing band. They also have the cutest artwork always. Go listen now!! If you don't click on any of the other bands, at least click on this one :)

Another band from the Central Coast, NSW. Lots of guitars, lots of drums, great vocals all make it a good listen. In some way they remind me of Kings of Leon.

That's all for today. Until next time.... xoxo

Aussie Awareness Day, Part 1.

Disclaimer: Before you think I'd break out into random Aussie jargon, I'm here to tell you that no, I will be writing in the basic Malaysian English that I've been taught... please continue reading.

I heart Australia. Most people who know me know that. But they might not know that one thing I really love about Australia is the fact that there's an entire community of bands and musicians who write, sing and play really amazing tunes! These same people tirelessly and relentlessly tour their beloved country, forming really unique friendships with one another, and some have even become recognized in the US and UK. Most of all I love their unique flavour and sound, not to mention the Aussie accent showing up every now and again in their vocals.

So starting today, my friends, is Part 1 of Aussie-music Awareness Day! ENJOY! xoxo

First up:
One of my favourite Aussie bands ever. Hailing from Melbourne, they have since said their farewells but their music lives on. Former lead singer (Andrew Kitchen) is currently flying solo. Check out his music too.

Second:
Another favourite. Hailing from the Central Coast, NSW (love that place!) this band has been quiet for a while. However, if you're in Sydney this October, you can catch them at this years Black Stump Music Festival.

Thirdly,
I've never seen them play but I have heard a lot about them. Hailing from the best part of Australia, Sydney!! (okay, actually they're from Blue Mountains) with a really refreshing acoustic feel. Soon to say their farewells, will be playing their final shows on their current tour and will also feature at this years Black Stump Music Festival.

Three for today and more to come in the days that follow.... till next time, Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!, Oi! Oi! Oi!

xx

Jónsi.

The other day I said Band of Horses made me happy. Well, Jónsi makes me happier. Enough said.

Baroque Pop / Post-Rock / Symphony

Band of Horses

Band of Horses makes me happy. Indie rock, folkish, southern sounds are totally what I'm in to these days. Maybe I'm growing old, or maybe you need to get yourself some Band of Horses loaded in to your ipod or itunes and get happy! It's good stuff.

Indie Rock / Southern Rock / Folk / Alternative Country

Just go have a listen and you'll see :)

Dear And The Headlights

Somehow i haven't come across anyone else that sounds like them.
Well...maybe i have, but i like them best ;D

Their music makes you wanna sing along, but there's so much words to catch up
with and on most songs, you're trying to figure out what are the words that he's singing.

Well, next to you that would be just fine!

Morgan Page

i must admit, I've never been much of a fan of techno, house, dance or trance. but after hearing Morgan Page on my Tap Tap Revenge, i was hooked. his stuff is not overtly dancey or trancey but just a good blend of semi-house+electronica music and some really nice vocals.

on that same note, if you're an iPhone user, Tap Tap Revenge is a great place to discover random new tunes :)

House / Electronica

Sounds like: Delerium, Ministry of Sound
Genre: Electronica / House / Dance

Twelve a.m. flowers

i'm supposed to be finishing up my work but here i am telling you that myspace is a great place to find new music! this band added me and i'm lovin their sound. they somehow remind me of telecast. their music wraps me in a feel good/laid back surrounding...and the sound of cello is sweetness to my ears. haha.
Twelve a.m flowers - Curiously Immortal
Lyrical / Melodramatic

enjoy!

many loves.

Do Overs And Second Chances (EP)

Who needs a daily dosage of new music?

I admit, the only thing that made me stop at my tracks to listen to them is because of their album cover.

I tried to pick a favourite track, but I ended up sitting for more than an hour just listening to the album over and over again. If I have to chose a track that I would replay, it will most probably be Letters And Love Notes.

Here's a little tidbit for first time listeners. The reason why they sound like Mayday Parade is because it's led by ex-Mayday Parade lead singer, Jason Lancaster.

Sleeping At Last

Somedays this album speaks for my emotions.

Very very melodic and somewhat dreamy/mary poppins-ish. i love that the album is piano-driven and full of musical instruments.

sleeping at last - storyboards

City and Colour

Acoustic set only.
Simple.
Shoots straight to the heart.

French Teen Idol - Enlightened False Consciousness

I'm a sucker for electronica. And when the combination of ambient comes into the picture, it blows my world, softly. It's a perfect listen for some time alone or when you want to put on your headphone and close your eyes.

French Teen Idol is an instrumental solo project by Andrea Di Carlo that hails from Rome, Italy. His second album, Enlightened False Consciousness, was released in 2007. As I listen to the album, I couldn't help repeating the two tracks; The Longest Night, and the title track.
Am loving the melodies of the piano and strings.. Makes a pretty picture of an empty wide field with tall grass swaying to the breezy wind.

The best thing is, his album - Enlightened False Consciousness is free to download! Just head to his myspace and click the link provided to the full length album. If you have trouble finding your way to myspace, just click on the album picture.

Darren Ashley.

INDIE.

my first love for an artist.

when i was younger, i used to think that i'll get married to jon foreman.haha. his voice, oh my sweetness, was and is breath-taking.oh well anyways during that time,i did some google-ing about him and found out that he was already married.what a bummer.it hit me right back to reality.
in 2008, i got my dream to see switchfoot live in malaysia. i went there with my siblings and friends. When the concert started with our very own malaysian bands ' love me butch' and 'altered frequency' playing for the opening show, we were all looking around for the best place to stand, and we were pretty far from stage. It was quite a long while before switchfoot started. so i called one of my friend Elizabeth and asked her where was she standing and she said that she was right in front of the stage and i thought, oh ok, i'll come see you for a while(i haven't seen her in like ages and the 'awhile' lasted the whole concert).there was a guy standing in front of us. so we were literally the second row from the stage. as we were talking and talking and talking, the lights went off.and so, switchfoot concert began. it felt so surreal to watch them play live, let alone see them so clearly right in front of you, plus it was my first concert ever. their showmanship is so good. their sound , their energy, is amazing. his voice, his voice, his voice, is just great.i was so happy when he started singing, 'hello, good morning, how'd you do' learning to breathe was one of my fav songs. half way through the concert, jon foreman decides to come down stage to greet his fans.i was like 'oh my gosh' he's so near us, he was standing right in front of the guy that was in front of me and elizabeth. since he was just there, haha, i streched out my hands to touch his arm. LOL. i shall describe to you what he looked like and how his body built is like. he was sweating all over,he had long blonde hair, he's tall, his arms were very muscular and blonde because of his hairy arms. haha. okay back to where he was, he decides to then stand on the railing and lean forward towards the crowd. that was pretty scary, just cause everyone started rushing and pushing and squeezing to the front. it was crazy. i was wearing my specs and it almost broke coz we were all squashed up together. in the midst of the chaos, i looked up and jon foremans face was right there, his eyes are so darn nice.oh and his sweat was dripping on us. i remembered thinking hopefully his sweat doesnt fall on my mouth.haha. he grabbed one of the camera from then crowd, snapped his picture and went back upstage to play. the band was amazing. you can really see that they enjoy playing music together and loving what they do. the concert was so enjoyable. singing and swaying to their music with my good friend was very cool.i wanna see them live again! i'm glad that all my friends and brother and sisters got to see them live too! so much fun!and that is why, everyone in the whole wide world should go see switchfoot live!

sj pick of the week

my playlist currently features::::::::::::
indie. really like their style and her voice. very sweet.

indie. totally random stuff. if you're in for some cuteness.

for days when the melodies speak louder than the lyrics.

i love numberonegun. even if they broke up and one of them decided to rename his new band number one gun! i love every song on this album.
